Details: Dr. Thomas J.Day is Chief for the Surface and Air Observations Services Division, Office of Observations,Assoc. Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at University of Maryland University College. The design, construction, sale and use of technology both by industry and continues to become more complex and difficult to accomplish. These issues cause waste of valuable resources due to incomplete designs, improperly applied technology and poor understanding of customer requirements. To address these increasing challenges, three new disciplines have emerged to improve development life cycles. Systems Engineering focuses on product development, Technology Management involves technology utilization, and Engineering Management is the broad life cycle governance to ensure the most cost-effective and efficient use of technology in a given environment. This seminar explains how these three disciplines interact and benefit both industry and consumer.
